AI visibility tracking

Track your AI visibility across six assistants

Your buyers are asking ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google the questions they used to type into a search box. We ask the same questions on all six engines, on a fixed schedule, and record whether you were named, so visibility stops being a thing you guess at.

Google AI Mode shows a fraction: below five answers a percentage would be a guess.

Four outcomes, kept apart

Every question lands in one of these on every check. Averaging them into a single score destroys the only signal that tells you what to do next.

  1. 1

    Not named

The assistant answered and named other brands, or none. The gap, stated plainly.

  2. 2

    Cited, not named

Your page is in the sources but a competitor is in the sentence. You have retrieval without framing.

  3. 3

    Named

Your brand is in the answer text. We record where in the answer, because first and last are not the same.

  4. 4

    No answer

Nothing was returned for that question that day. It leaves the denominator instead of counting against you.

A rate, with its sample

Why one check tells you nothing

Assistants generate answers rather than retrieving them, so the same question can name you at nine in the morning and skip you at noon. Any tool that checks once and shows a green tick is reporting a coin flip. We check continuously, report the rate, and print the number of checks beside it — the same rule we apply on Google AI Overviews and everywhere else.

On a fixed schedule.
Each question in your set, on each engine, from the market you chose.
Fractions below five.
Under five checks you see 2/4, never 50%. One run is an anecdote, not a rate.
Absence is not a loss.
A day with no answer leaves the denominator rather than counting against you.

10 of 14 answers named you. Now it is a rate.

Same question, same engine, one answer per day. Failures on our side are excluded from the denominator.

Six engines, never merged

One number per engine, because they disagree

We have watched ChatGPT and Perplexity name different brands for the same question on the same day. Blending them into a single “AI visibility score” averages away the disagreement, which is the part you can act on: if five engines name you and one does not, that one engine is the work. Each engine is collected differently, and we say how.

Visibility is where the work starts, not where it ends

A rate tells you there is a gap. Three other measurements tell you what kind of gap it is.

Knowing you are named in 40% of ChatGPT answers is the beginning of a question, not the end of one. Whether that 40% is rising or falling against the competitors named beside you changes what it means. So does how you are described in the answers where you do appear, and whether your pages are being cited in the ones where you are not. Those three together turn a number into a decision.

Common questions about AI visibility tracking

What people ask before they trust a visibility number.

What is AI visibility tracking?
Repeatedly asking the questions your buyers ask, on each assistant, and recording whether your brand is named in the answer. The output is a rate — named in 14 of the last 30 ChatGPT checks — rather than a rank, because an AI answer is prose, not a numbered list. There is no position 3 to hold.
Why is it a rate and not a score?
Because assistants generate each answer rather than retrieving it, two checks minutes apart can differ. A single check is a coin flip. Reporting a rate across repeated checks is the only honest way to describe behaviour that is genuinely variable, and it is why we always print the number of checks next to the number.
What happens when there are only a few checks?
Below five checks we show the fraction — 2 out of 4 — and not a percentage. Rendering one check out of two as 50% implies a precision that is not there. You will see real percentages once there is enough data to support one, and not before.
Do all six engines get tracked on every plan?
Yes. ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini, on every plan including the cheapest. No engine is held back for a higher tier. Plans differ only in how many questions and brands you track.
How is this different from rank tracking?
A rank tracker asks where you sit in an ordered list of ten blue links. An assistant returns one answer that either contains your name or does not, and the reasons it does are about how your category is described across the web rather than how one page is optimised. The measurement, the unit and the fix are all different.
Can I see why a number moved?
Yes. Every rate is backed by the individual answers that produced it, stored in full with their citations, so you can read the actual sentence rather than trusting an aggregate. That is the difference between a dashboard you act on and one you look at.
