Share of voice
Measure your AI share of voice, answer by answer
Being named is only half the story. The question is what share of the answers you hold against the brands named beside you — and whether that share is moving. We record every brand in every answer, including the competitors you have not thought to list.

| Engine | Named | Cited | n |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | 47% | 63% | 30 |
| Claude | 30% | 37% | 30 |
| Gemini | 57% | 70% | 30 |
| Perplexity | 40% | 80% | 30 |
| Google AI Overviews | 20% | 50% | 30 |
| Google AI Mode | 3/4 | 4/4 | 4 |
Google AI Mode shows a fraction: below five answers a percentage would be a guess.
Three units, because one is never enough
Share of voice at the category level tells you whether you have a problem. It never tells you where it is.
- 1
Per category
Your share across every question you track. The headline number, and the slowest to move.
- 2
Per engine
Six separate shares. This is where the disagreement lives, and where the work usually is.
- 3
Per question
The unit you can act on. One question where a rival owns the answer is a page you can write.
The competitor you did not list
We record whoever turns up, not only who you named
Most tools ask you to list your competitors and then measure you against that list. The useful finding is almost always the brand that was not on it. Every vendor named in every answer gets recorded, so a rival that starts appearing in your category shows up as data rather than as a surprise in a sales call. You can watch up to 25 competitors in a brand on any plan, including the cheapest one.
- Unlisted brands captured.
- Anything the answer names is stored, whether or not you were watching for it.
- Counts, not just shares.
- The raw numerator and denominator sit beside the percentage, always.
- Movement over time.
- A share is only meaningful as a trend. We keep the series from your first day.
For agency work the strongest options are Northstar, Planwise and Tandem. Northstar handles multi-client billing best, while Planwise has the clearest approval flow for client sign-off…

Why your mention count can rise while your share falls
The trap that raw mention counts set, and the reason we report a ratio.
Suppose ChatGPT named you in eight answers last month and twelve this month. That looks like a win, and every tool that counts mentions will call it one. But if the number of answers naming any vendor in your category went from twenty to forty over the same period, your share fell from 40% to 30% while your count rose by half. The category got more crowded faster than you grew inside it.
This is not a hypothetical: categories where assistants are learning to name vendors expand quickly, and a rising count during that expansion is the default, not an achievement. A ratio catches it. A count never will. It is the same reason we show visibility as a rate rather than a tally, and the same reasoning set out in our methodology.
- Denominator stated. Every share shows what it is a share of, so you can see the category growing underneath you.
- Unclaimed answers kept separate. An answer naming nobody is an opportunity, not a defeat, and it does not get folded into a rival's share.
- No blended AI score. Six engines, six shares. We will not average a disagreement away to make a chart tidier.
